What is Injection Lipolysis?

Injection Lipolysis chemically reduces the number of fat cells around the injection site. The active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, triggers a process known as ‘apoptosis’ or programmed cell death. When injected below the chin, injection lipolysis is able to reduce unwanted fat that contributes to the appearance of submental fullness, or ‘double chin.’

This treatment involves micro injections of fat-dissolving substances to specifically target stubborn localised fat deposits that generally respond poorly to diet and exercise. Targeting the appearance of submental fullness or ‘double chin,’ resulting in a more contoured neck profile and jawline.

Why have injection lipolysis?

Fullness under the chin, or ‘double chin’ is a common concern for both men and women.

It can be caused by:

  • Ageing – It may naturally develop as you age
  • Genetics – it may be a part of your DNA
  • Weight changes – It may appear as a result of weight change

Sometimes, no matter how much you diet or exercise, the fullness in this area may not go away – and it may make you appear older and heavier than you actually are.

This treatment is perfect to target stubborn localised fat deposits under the chin that generally respond poorly to diet and exercise. Injection lipolysis involves a series of micro-injections of synthesised deoxycholic acid (a substance that naturally occurs in our body to help break down dietary fat), resulting in a more defined and youthful jawline and neck profile.

This treatment is ideal for patients who are interested in a non-surgical approach to reduce the fat beneath the chin.

What areas can be treated with injection lipolysis?

Currently, injection lipolysis is FDA-approved and TGA-listed for treatment only of the ‘double chin.’ Unfortunately, this treatment has not been indicated for use in other areas.

Injection lipolysis is not suitable for patients concerned with loose skin or poor tone under the chin – other treatment options such as laser and dermal fillers are great options to target skin laxity.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients treated with injection lipolysis experience visible improvement of their chin profile in 2-4 treatments. Some patients may require up to 6 treatments to achieve their optimal result. Once your desired results are achieved additional treatments may not be needed as results are maintained for at least 4 years depending on lifestyle and dietary factors.
